Body mass Index (BMI)- Few facts to know

 In many parts of the world, undernutrition is very much prevalent, but lifestyle disorders related to over nutrition and obesity are equally prevalent nowadays. Body mass index(BMI) is equally important in both undernourished and obesity.

Body mass index is calculated by dividing weight in kg by height in merer square.

BMI = weight in kg/ Height in meter squares 

Normal BMI is between 18.5 to 24.9

Overweight BMI is between 25 to 29.9

In Obesity BMI is above 30.

Center for disease control (CDC) has shown a standard for BMI for age groups between 2 to 20 year’s. BMI reflects the lean body mass and maintaining a normal BMI is of utmost importance for a healthy life.

A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. Nowadays the lifestyle diseases related to obesity is of much concern rather than undernourished.
