Heart attack in young population- An alarming bell

 Few days back, when I got the news of demise of Sidharth Shukla, a television heartthrob, I was totally shocked. I never  believed such a news in first instance. The rising trend of heart attacks in younger populations has set the alarming bell. According to studies, India has more instances of young age heart attacks incidence in comparison to the other demographics. In India about  25 percent of heart attacks are seen in below 40 years age group. 

The surge in young age incidence attributed to family history of cardiovascular disorders, genetic predisposition.The risk factors attributable are—

1. Diabetes 

2. Incidence of young age hypertension 

3. Hypercholesterolemia 

4.  Increased alcohol consumption 

5.  Stress- it increases cortisol level in our body which  further deteriorates rising blood sugar levels  and increases in blood cholesterol levels.

6. Smoking 

7. Increase  consumption of trans fats, fast foods.

8. Obesity

Prevention of childhood obesity included in the primordial prevention and resurgence of cardiovascular disease in adults.

Heart attack or myocardial infarction occurs due to decreased blood supply to the  heart due to narrowing of the vessels  and formation of blood clots.

Signs include- sudden stabbing or squeezing type of pain over heart, dizziness with breathlessness. If any person having any risk factors with such symptoms should immediately consult the physician  for timely intervention and early recognition. 

Preventive measures include-

1. Control of blood  sugar, serum  cholesterol

2. Regular blood pressure measurements and effective treatment 

3. Control of obesity and maintain BMI(body mass  index)in normal limits 

4. Regular  exercise 

5. Avoid stress, alcohol 

6. Decrease salt intake 

A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. Our health is in our hands. Intervene before it is too late.

An health awareness tips.Nicely explained.I think life style to be changed in the present young mass.They should practse our ancestors early to bed & early rise from bed followed by exercise , yoga & Pranayam . And above all the traditional Indian food not Junk foods which was introduced I think after 1984 – 85.Plz keep up posting such blogs
