Few days back, when I got the news of demise of Sidharth Shukla, a television heartthrob, I was totally shocked. I never believed such a news in first instance. The rising trend of heart attacks in younger populations has set the alarming bell. According to studies, India has more instances of young age heart attacks incidence in comparison to the other demographics. In India about 25 percent of heart attacks are seen in below 40 years age group.
The surge in young age incidence attributed to family history of cardiovascular disorders, genetic predisposition. The risk factors attributable are—
1. Diabetes
2. Incidence of young age hypertension
3. Hypercholesterolemia
4. Increased alcohol consumption
5. Stress- it increases cortisol level in our body which further deteriorates rising blood sugar levels and increases in blood cholesterol levels.
6. Smoking
7. Increase consumption of trans fats, fast foods.
8. Obesity
Prevention of childhood obesity included in the primordial prevention and resurgence of cardiovascular disease in adults.
Heart attack or myocardial infarction occurs due to decreased blood supply to the heart due to narrowing of the vessels and formation of blood clots.
